As a part of the sesquicentennial celebrations of Tamil Nadu Police, a National seminar on "Road Safety and Urban Traffic Management" was conducted at the Tamil Nadu Police Academy on 30-11-2009 and 01-12-2009.

The seminar was inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at Secretariat, Chennai on 30-11-2009 FN and thereafter all participants came to the TNPA. His Excellency the Governor of Tamil Nadu was the Chief guest for the Valediction on 01-12-2009 AN at the TNPA Seminar Hall.

The seminar laid emphasis on public participation and education in the area of road safety. Senior Officers and distinguished speakers from all over the country from the Police, Highways, Health, Road Engineering and Research and other relevant departments attended the Seminar. An exhibition displaying various advanced equipments and road safety gadgets was also organized in the Academy. His Excellency the Governor of Tamil Nadu visited the exhibition. His Excellency released a Coffee Table Book "The Pioneer Peacekeepers : Tamil Nadu Police - 150 Years" during the valediction.

A three day Regional Level Training of Trainers Programme on "Combating Trafficking in Human Beings", a joint initiative of Bureau of Police Research & Development, MHA New Delhi and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime was conducted at Tamil Nadu Police Academy from 29.07.09 to 31.07.09.

28 Police Officers including 1 DIG (from Karnataka) and 4 SsP participated in the programme. Resource persons from United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, New Delhi and other experienced trainers in this field imparted training. Archana Ramasundaram, IPS, ADGP / CBCID, Tamil Nadu delivered the inaugural address in the conference Hall. Amaresh Pujari, IPS, IGP (Trg) delivered welcome address and Jayashree Ragunadan, IAS, Commissioner for Social Defence, Chennai delivered special address. Role of Police in Rescue Operation and Investigation Techniques, Pre - Rescue Activities, Intelligence collection, Source Information, Source / Transit Areas, Drafting PIR, Collection of material objects, Interrogation of the accused etc. were discussed in detail.
