TN Police Academy

The Tamil Nadu Police Academy was inaugurated on 15th March, 2008, by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The TNPA (Lat. 12o51'25" N, Long. 80o05'52" E, elevation 57 metres), is located at Vandalur - 35 kms from Chennai.

The campus, spread over 129 acres, has a proposed built up Area of 4.46 Lakh sq. ft. The first batch of 715 Sub Inspector trainees passed out of the TNPA on 11 January, 2009, in a grand ceremony presided over by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Earlier training locations for Police officers

Before the establishment of the TN Police Academy, training for DySsP and SIs of Tamil Nadu Police was being done in a Police Training College temporarily housed in a 5 acre police barracks complex at Ashok Nagar, Madras, which was constructed and equipped at a cost of Rs.66 lakhs. This set up started functioning from 1975, before which the Vellore Police Training College was training the officers as well as the constabulary.
